Recently RosettaNet has introduced their newest standard to the market called Partner Interface Processes (PIP). By PIP providing the models and documents for the implementation of standards it has clearly defined business processes between supply chain companies. PIPs are made up of specialized system-to-system XML-based dialogs. RosettaNet breaks PIPs into six different groups of core business processes. The eight clusters (the groups of core business processes) is broken down into segments of cross-enterprise processes that involve a number of different types of supply chain companies. Every PIP includes a technical specification based on the RosettaNet Implementation Framework (RNIF), a Message Guideline document with a PIP-specific version of the Business Directory and an XML Message Guideline document. Machu Pichu Is Falling essays In March 2001, Japanese geologists went to Machu Picchu, an ancient Incan site in the Andes Mountains, and found proof that Machu Picchu would soon be victim to a landslide. The site is famous for being one of the last Incan strongholds after Spanish conquistadores invaded in the 16th century. It is located high in the Andes, 2550 meters above sea level on steep terrain. Based on what the geologists found, it could be one of two types of landslides. First, it could be a debris flow, which occurs when the ground becomes saturated (from rain), and then mixes with the regolith and other material (example: boulders), and that creates a kind of slurry that moves down slope. Their speeds vary, but specifically will move faster when on steep terrain and when its wet. It could be this type because it rains there a lot, it is steep terrain and it is moving quickly. Secondly, it could be a rockslide, which is when land slides, quickly, as a consistent mass, down slope, usually initiated along a fracture or weakness. It could be a rockslide because the soil is shallow at Machu Picchu, rain can activate rockslides, there is already a distortion line going through the site, and it is a quickly moving landslide. There are many triggers to activate these landslides at Machu Picchu. First off, Machu Picchu is in a steep area, which lends itself to most landslides. Then another huge factor that encourages landslides is rain. It rains a lot in Oregon, around forty inches a year, but at Machu Picchu it rains around, eighty inches a year. Rain can saturate the ground and make it unstable and susceptible to landslides. Lastly, the effect of people on this area is harmful. People walking everyday on the uncertain land could have the effect an earthquake might. There are many options as to how to attempt to stop this landslide. I Was Waitlisted - What Do I Do Now?

Hearing back about your college admissions decisions may be one of the most stressful things you’ve yet experienced. You’ll probably feel some combination of excitement and dread while waiting to find out whether your first-choice college will be sending a â€Å"Congratulations!† or a â€Å"We regret to inform you†¦Ã¢â‚¬  But what if, when you open that envelope or log into that application system, the answer is neither? As you probably know, a certain number of college applicants are neither accepted nor rejected on that notification date in March or April. Instead, they’re waitlisted — placed on a list of applicants who may be reconsidered in the coming months, should there be gaps in the freshman class. Obviously, being put on the waitlist is not the acceptance for which you’ve been hoping, and getting waitlisted can be quite disappointing. However, you may still have a chance at being admitted to your chosen school. In this post, we’ll go over the waitlist process, your waitlist action plan, and how to make the best of this situation. If you are placed on a college’s waitlist, you have not been accepted to that college. However, the college is telling you that if there ends up being space in the incoming freshman class, they may consider admitting you to fill that space. Why might there be space in the matriculating class for waitlist candidates? Often, it’s because fewer accepted applicants chose to actually attend the college than the admissions office anticipated; in other words, their yield was lower than they expected. It might also be because some accepted students chose to defer admission for a year and take a gap year. Having a waitlist allows the school to fill any remaining spaces with qualified candidates, thus both ensuring they’ll have a complete class and making a handful of lucky students very happy. In many ways, this is a win-win situation for colleges and college applicants, but in order for you to have the best possible chance at eventually being admitted , it’s important that you understand the waitlist process and use it to good advantage. Because space for waitlisted candidates depends upon how many accepted applicants choose to attend, waitlist decisions can’t be made until the college hears back from this original batch of applicants. Since most colleges have response deadlines of around May 1st, this means that you won’t hear back about your waitlist application until at least May. Different schools have different procedures for considering waitlisted applicants. For some schools, the process can stretch out over the summer. Fortunately, most schools will inform you once the waitlist acceptance process is over even if you weren’t accepted, so you won’t have to live with uncertainty for longer than necessary. It’s hard to say what your chances will be of getting off the waitlist. A great deal of that depends on your profile as an applicant. Generally, the waitlist admissions process considers all the same factors that were considered when you initially applied, though (as we’ll describe below) you’ll also have the opportunity to update the college about any new accomplishments. Waitlist acceptance rates vary from school to school and even from year to year; it all depends upon how the regular admissions process goes that year. Some colleges have ranked waitlists, in which the college’s admissions office already knows who will be offered admission in what order if spaces open up, but many don’t. With all this unpredictability, the waitlist process offers no guarantees, and it’s important that you keep this fact in mind. The number of spots that open up in the matriculating class is often quite low, and consequently, so are waitlist admissions rates. In some years, at some competitive schools, no waitlisted applicants can be admitted at all. You can choose not to stay on the waitlist if you wish, meaning that you’re giving up your chance to be considered for later admission. If you’re excited about another school that has offered you admission, it may be preferable to you to take that offer and begin making solid future plans rather than waiting around. There’s nothing wrong with taking that path. Still, most of the time, someone is accepted off of the waitlist. If you’re still strongly interested in attending that college, and you’re willing to accept not knowing your status for a while longer, it may be worthwhile for you to stay on the waitlist and put in some additional work to make sure you’re as strong a candidate as you can be. If you do choose to remain on the waitlist, you’ll have some work ahead of you in order to maximize your waitlist potential. Below, we’ll go over how to figure out the best approach for your particular college, what to do in order to secure your waitlist spot and update your application profile, and why it’s still essential that you have a strong backup plan. Estimating your chance of getting into a college is not easy in today’s competitive environment. In order for you to get accepted off the waitlist, you first need to make sure that you’re on the waitlist. Many schools require that you do something specific to indicate that you’re accepting a spot on the waitlist, such as filling out an online form or sending an email to a particular address. As we discussed above, your waitlist notification will usually tell you exactly how to confirm (or turn down) your waitlist spot. If your school does not give specific instructions, you’ll need to write the admissions office a formal letter notifying them of your decision. If your school uses a specific procedure, use that procedure, and you’ll often be able to submit a more detailed letter as well — ask your admissions office for advice. In your letter, you should explicitly state your intention to stay on the waitlist. You should also reiterate your strong interest in attending that college if you are eventually accepted. Keep your letter relatively succinct, though — the admissions office already has access to your application, so you don’t need to repeat information that they already know. What you can include is information about any new accomplishments you’ve achieved since you submitted your initial application for admission. New accomplishments can also include ways in which you’ve significantly improved your original applicant profile. If you’ve retaken a standardized test and achieved a substantially higher score — for example, a change of more than 150 points in your SAT score — informing the college might  help your application. The same is true if your grades have improved by more than one letter grade. Smaller improvements in grades or scores probably won’t make much of a difference. Depending on the nature of these updates, some of them may require you to submit additional information. For example, if you have a higher SAT score to report, you must also remember to order an official score report to be sent to the college by the College Board . If you want to send in any other supplemental information at this point, first, call the college and ask if they’ll take that information into consideration. Some colleges won’t even look at supplemental materials, and it’s a waste of time to prepare any. Remember, the college already has your application; you can make updates, but you can’t rewrite the whole thing. Don’t forget to do your research on the college’s website and even call the college’s admissions office if you’re at all uncertain about whether or not to include a particular achievement or piece of information in your letter. It’s also a good idea to have someone read your letter before you send it — this would not be a good time for typos or other silly errors. Finally, in making and carrying out your waitlist action plan, you need to follow any specific instructions that you’re given by the college. As we’ve mentioned, some schools have more specific procedures than others regarding what to do when you’re waitlisted. If a school uses a particular online system to collect information, for example, make sure you use that system rather than just submitting a separate letter. Conversely, don’t do anything the college tells you not to do. If the college tells you that they don’t accept additional letters of recommendation for waitlisted students, don’t send one in. If the college tells you that you can’t arrange for an additional interview or admissions meeting, don’t show up unannounced and demand to see the Dean of Admissions. (Yes, things like this do occasionally happen.) Not following directions can only hurt an admissions officer’s perception of you as a candidate, even if you’re breaking the rules in an attempt to portray yourself in a better light. Being perceived as rude also won’t help. As always, being polite and respectful to admissions representatives is essential — these are the people you’re trying to impress, after all. While you might be tempted to call the admissions office every day to find out if there’s been any change in your status, it’s best to stifle the impulse to check in too frequently. Once you’ve done your best to update your application, you can be hopeful while still moving on with your life. In the next section, we’ll offer some advice about making backup plans while waiting to hear about your waitlist application. Making a backup plan involves confronting the reality that in the end, most waitlisted applicants will not be accepted . This doesn’t necessarily reflect poorly on you — competitive colleges have to turn down many qualified applicants , and there’s always an element of chance. Still, it can be hard to give up on your dream school or your mental plans for your college career. The good news is that, in many ways, college is what you make of it. Even if another college doesn’t initially seem perfect, it can still be a great fit for you. While you’re waiting for news about your waitlist status, for your own safety and sanity, you need to continue moving forward with your plans as if you’re not going to be accepted to your waitlist school, and think about how to make the most of life at another school. First, you’ll need to make a big decision: Which school’s offer of acceptance will you go with? Evaluating your choices and coming to a final decision is rarely easy, and its complexities deserve their own blog post: How to Deal With College Decisions and Make a Choice . Once you’ve made your decision about where to attend, do whatever that school asks you to do in order to secure your spot in the matriculating class. Don’t worry about this decision impacting your chances of admission off the waitlist — it won’t, and the college that waitlisted you knows that making a backup plan is a wise and mature move. Many schools ask admitted applicants to submit some type of deposit in order to confirm their enrollment, and sometimes also to confirm on-campus housing. These deposits are often nonrefundable, meaning that if you get accepted off the waitlist at your first-choice college and withdraw from your backup college, you won’t get your money back. Enrollment and housing deposits are not insignificant, especially if your family income is on the lower end. However, despite the potential monetary loss, this is the safest way to proceed if you want to remain on the waitlist. If you’re unsure whether you can afford to do this, discuss the situation with your family and your guidance counselor for more advice. Don’t just choose a backup school to attend — embrace that choice! Instead of dwelling on what might have been, throw yourself into learning about all the opportunities that await you at the school you plan to attend. Richard captures Elizabeth’s brother Anthony, her son Edward, and her son Richard Grey. -Elizabeth’s marriage to Edward is declared invalid. -Elizabeth attempts to organize an uprising against Richard III. -Elizabeth is told that Richard III has killed her sons Edward and Richard. She does not believe this. -Elizabeth finally believes that her son Edward is dead. -Elizabeth after agreeing that her daughter will marry Richard III she sends for her son Richard and he is restored to her. The climax of Elizabeth’s character is when she finally believes that her son Edward is dead (489). This is because throughout the book her goal has been to make sure that one of her sons becomes the King of England. After this point she seems to come to terms with the fact that her family had its time in power and there is no more that she can do to further her family’s power. Elizabeth’s character goes through many changes throughout the novel. She begins not wanting to further herself in the royal court simply to get her husband’s lands returned to her. But when she finds herself falling in love with the king she gets a taste of the power of the Queen of England and cannot seem to give it up even when she could have saved many people by surrendering the throne. Edward IV -While riding out to battle meets Elizabeth Woodville and her two sons. -Calls for troops to muster and in doing so sees Elizabeth again and asks her to marry him in secret. -Edward wins the battle against King Henry VI, officially becoming King of England. -The King announces his marriage to Elizabeth and calls her to court. -His most trusted advisor the Earl of Warwick turns against him and puts his support behind Edward’s brother George Duke of Clarence. -Edward is captured by Richard Neville the Earl of Warwick’s army. Edward is released by the Earl of Warwick. -Edward is once again called to battle against Warwick, and Edward wins. Edward and his two brothers kill the old King Henry VI in the tower of London. -Edward learns of George’s plot against him and has him executed for treason. -Edward becomes ill. -On his deathbed he makes his advisors and his wife promise to work to protect his son and work together. -Edward dies leaving his brother Richard, as Royal protector. The climax for Edward’s character is when he becomes ill (341). His character in the story has been centered on him growing from a young naà ¯ve boy to a man of the world. He reverts back to his childish ways when he becomes sick. â€Å"As if he were still a boy and could take such risks with his health† (340). This is the climax because from this point on he tries to reconcile everything he can but ultimately fails in doing so before he dies. Edward’s character undergoes many changes throughout the portion of his life that is illustrated in this novel. He began as a young man who believed he was invincible and saw Elizabeth as the most beautiful lady in the country and felt that he had to have her. During his life in the novel he grows to understand that he is not invincible and he becomes very scared. This shows not that he was unintelligent at the beginning; he simply had not seen the terrors of the world yet. Then at the end of his life he returned to his childlike persona and tells Elizabeth â€Å"I am afraid again† (342). Shortly thereafter he dies. Part 2: Plot * Edward and Elizabeth meet and are married in secret. * Edward wins a battle against the old King Henry IV and becomes the official King of England. * Edward tells his advisor Richard Neville, the Earl of Warwick that he is already married when Warwick tries to make him marry someone else. * Edward and Elizabeth have three daughters named, Elizabeth, Cecily, and Anne. * Warwick creates an uprising in England to usurp Edward IV and make George the Duke of Clarence king of England. * Warwick kills Elizabeth’s father and her brother. Warwick also captures but eventually releases Edward IV. * Elizabeth has a son named Edward. He becomes Edward the Prince of Wales. * King Edward with his brothers defeats Warwick in another battle. * Together Edward and Elizabeth have four more children. Only three survive past the age of two. * King Edward IV dies, leaving as his heir Edward the Prince of Wales under the protection of his brother Richard. * Elizabeth takes what is left of her family and moves into Westminster Abbey claiming sanctuary. * Richard declares Elizabeth and Edward’s marriage invalid and therefore he is the rightful heir to the throne. * Elizabeth receives news that Richard III has killed her sons. But does not believe that it is true. * Elizabeth sends her daughters to court after she finally understands that her son Edward most likely not returning to her. * Elizabeth’s daughter Elizabeth falls in love with Richard III. * Elizabeth’s daughter gains Elizabeth the right to return to court with her son if he is in hiding. Which he is. * Elizabeth’s son Richard is returned to her. The climax of the novel is when Elizabeth says â€Å"If Edward is alive, then pray God he will find his way to me. And there will always be a candle in the window to light his way home, and my door will never be locked, in case one day it is his hand on the latch.’ ‘But you don’t expect him anymore?’ ‘I don’t expect him’† (489). This is the climax because Elizabeth does not need her son to be King anymore she simply wants him to be alive. She seems to have given up her ambition to be mother of the heir to England. Part III: Symbolism/Theme Theme I: Loyalty is always changing; therefore do not expect anything from someone without giving them something in return. Theme II: Ambition Theme III: There can be no peace when fighting is within families. â€Å"These are hard times, and England is a country of sorrows. No mother can be sure that she will not bury her sons. When a country is at war, cousin against cousin, brother against brother, no boy is safe† (133). This is a theme of the novel because Symbol I: The Tower of London represents false security. This symbol can be tied to the theme that no one is safe when fighting is between families. Symbol II: The white rose represents loyalty to the House of York but it is also represents hidden loyalties because in this time Loyalties could be seemingly to the house of York but really to the House of Lancaster. The white rose represents the theme of changing Loyalties. Symbol III: The River represents that even in Death life goes on. Part IV: Figurative Language 1. â€Å"It is an enchantment? You are Melusina? A beautiful goddess bathing in the woods and he that just departed was a knight sworn to your service? This is Camelot now? An honorable love?† (58). The allusions to both Melusina and Camelot enhance this passage in showing Elizabeth’s brother Anthony’s point of view on the marriage of Elizabeth to Edward. He was against it and used the allusions to compare well known love stories of Guinevere and Lancelot to show Elizabeth that her marriage was not honorable and was not for love. 2. â€Å"No one knows better than she how to plow the furrow that is Royal England† (77). This metaphor enhances the novel by comparing the royal court to a narrow trench; it is like saying that there is only a small margin for error in anything small and tight. Thus, by comparing the Court to a furrow, the metaphor is characterizing the Court of England as a small tight group of people not likely to accept mistakes. 3. â€Å"It is as if there are ghosts here. Are my boys staying here tonight?† (97). This statement is foreshadowing because Elizabeth instantly dislike the Tower of London but cannot say entirely why, but as illustrated through her question about her children it is somehow connected to them and as the story goes on the reader learns that her son dies in the tower. 4. â€Å"At once she takes a pair of silver scissors from her pocket and cuts the other two threads so whatever was tied on is swept away into the dark waters. ‘What were they?’ ‘They are the things that will never happen; they are the future we will never know. They are the children who will not be born and the chances that we won’t take and the luck that we won’t have,’ she says. ‘They are gone. They are lost to you. See instead what you have chosen.’† (143). This exchange between Elizabeth and her mother is used as foreshadowing. It foreshadows the death of her two sons by the two threads that represent the future that they will never know. Just like they will never fully know what happened to Elizabeth’s sons. 5. â€Å"Let you be the last York who dies in the Tower of London. Let it end here† (333). This shows foreshadowing because as the reader learns her sons, Edward and the page boy she sent to pretend to be Richard, die in the Tower of London. This enhances the passage because it makes Elizabeth seem partially responsible for the deaths of her children. Part V: I mostly agree with Philippa Gregory’s portrayal of Elizabeth Woodville in the White Queen, although there are a few things that I do not think were entirely historically accurate. Gregory’s use of magic throughout the novel as seen through the water goddess Melusina, did not appear in my research. Although she was accused of witchcraft once I doubt she practiced it as often as the novel suggests. I also do not agree with the plot point that Elizabeth sent a pageboy instead of her second son to the tower to be with her first, sending her second son away, because if she had done so the second son would have appeared in history. Therefore I think that Philippa Gregory took some liberties in writing the novel but most other aspects were accurate. Essential Question Essay â€Å"To truly test a man’s character, give him power.† These wise words of Abraham Lincoln apply perfectly to Elizabeth Woodville. The White Queen by Philippa Gregory raises many points about humanity, but the character flaw constantly suggested is need for power. When do the costs of power and ambition become too much to outweigh the benefits? Elizabeth Woodville first learned of the costs that come from the need to expand power when she lost her first husband in the Battle of St. Albans (22). He was fighting for King Henry VI, who was being usurped by the House of York who were fighting to claim what they believed was their rightful place as the rulers of England. Elizabeth gained no benefits from the York’s ambition to become King. She had also lost her husband’s lands and had no way to gain them back. After marrying the King, Elizabeth had her first taste of power. She greatly influenced many marriages and placed her family in high positions of power. The costs for these great successes were also quite significant. In an attempt to place her family in even higher positions she alienated the Earl of Warwick, Richard Neville, who had not liked her from the time he met her. Warwick was not content to sit by and watch as his control was taken away. So in return he attacked the Kingdom and in doing so killed Elizabeth’s father and brother. To Elizabeth’s mother, the death of her husband and son began to weigh heavily on her, as much as she had wanted her family in power, she was not willing to sacrifice her entire family for the York cause, and died shortly thereafter. Elizabeth’s daughter, Elizabeth sees the many costs that her mother’s ambition has caused her family. The young Elizabeth recognized unlike her mother that by caring more for the crown than she did for her children, her mother caused more harm to come to the family. The young Elizabeth also believed that in sending an innocent boy in place of her son, who would be killed in the Tower of London, her mother overstepped the boundary between what was right and what was wrong. Elizabeth never fully came to the understanding that her ambition was a significant part in the death of many of her kinsmen. Through her voice in the novel she never takes the blame for the death of her family but does continue to search for power. When Richard III had taken the throne he had left her with nothing to go on. She had thought her heirs were dead but then when her daughter is asked by Richard III to marry him, Elizabeth shows that, â€Å"despite my own caution, despite my own fears, I start to hope. I start to think that if King Richard marries Elizabeth and makes her his queen I will be welcome at court again, I will take my place as My Lady, the Queen’s Mother† (509). Elizabeth in saying this at the end of the novel shows that despite the deaths that her ambition has caused she was still willing to risk many more to further herself and her family in England’s royal court. Gregory uses The White Queen to express an essential flaw in human nature: the spoils of pride. The addressing of when ambition is taken to far is not in what the characters feel and express it is in what they do not express where the answer is illustrated. At the commencement of the novel Elizabeth’s character is rel atable but throughout the novel she becomes harder to relate to.

In First Samuel chapter eight the Israelites request a king to reign over them. God appoints a man who’s name is Saul. He first appears as a typical young man who belongs to the small tribe of Benjamin. When he is appointed king he is somewhat intimidated by his new task. However, over time he experiences a series of events that make him a selfish, envious, and a power hungry ruler, and eventually insane. This development in his character starts from his son Jonathan’s disobedience to his orders, but its main source is his jealousy of David’s successfulness on the battlefield, and his failed attempts at killing David. The first time we meet Saul he is sent by his father to go look for their lost donkeys. After looking and not finding the donkeys, he wants to go home, because his father might be worried. â€Å"Let us turn back, or my father will stop worrying about the asses and begin to worry about us.† (1 Samuel 9:5) This is an ordinary reaction that an ordinary person would have to this situation. From Saul’s first utterance it is obvious that he is an average man who was worried about his father. Alter states that a biblical character’s first utterance is the defining moment of a character. However, from the moment of Saul’s first remark to the day of his death he changes drastically. Saul tells the Israelites that â€Å"Cursed be the man who eats any food before night falls and I take revenge on my enemies.† (1 Samuel 14: 24) However, Saul’s son Jonathan did not hear Saul’s declaration. When he spots honey spilt on the ground he tastes it and â€Å"his eyes lit up.† (1 Samuel 14:27) Although the other troops warned him that Saul had forbidden eating, Jonathan did not regret his decision in disobeying his father’s orders. â€Å"My fath... ...with him, and he knew that David was better fit for a king. Saul knew he could not stay king as long as David was around. Saul attempted to kill David many times. Each time he would fail. Every failure brought Saul closer to snapping. In chapters twenty-four and twenty-six David has two opportunities to kill Saul. Each time he spares Saul’s life, but he leaves a mark to let Saul know that he could have killed Saul. The first time David cuts part of Saul’s robe. The second time David takes Saul’s spear and his ______________________. David was playing with Saul’s mind. Saul was powerless in comparison to David. Comparative religion Essay

When classifying the world’s major religions they can easily be split up into two groups: Eastern religions and Western religions. The Eastern religions consist of Hinduism, Buddhism and Taoism. The Western religions consist of Judaism, Christianity and Islam. Almost all of these religions have come about within existing religious frameworks. Eastern and Western religions share many qualities while differing in many as well. Hinduism, Buddhism and Taoism are monistic, meaning they see god in all things. The Eastern mind sees God everywhere, in all things, and sees everything as sacred. Their ultimate reality is an entity and not necessarily a god. â€Å"God† is not personal and not to be thought of as a brother or father, but as so much more. Eastern religions see one kind of reality. They view all beings as equal in value. The individual is not actually real and the separateness of humans from creation and from one another is an illusion to be overcome. Human nature is viewed as naturally ignorant and we better ourselves by being enlightened. Following dharma is the good life, which is being in harmony with universal order through personal duty. In Eastern religions, enlightenment is attained within the individual. In Buddhism, it is nirvana; In Hinduism, it is the yoga; In Taoism, it is wu wei. Reincarnation is a central belief; so some things are not that big of a deal, such as justice or injustice. They believe there is one true god and all religions speak of him. There are many paths to god. Judaism, Christianity, and Islam are monotheistic faiths, which mean they believe in one god. The Western mind considers it heresy to believe that God pervades all things, and makes a strong difference between what is sacred and what is profane. The god of Judaism, Christianity and Islam is a god of history not of nature, the world reflects him but he isn’t to be found in it. God is personal and tended to be thought of in terms of what we know, such as a father figure, etc. Western religions are dualistic, meaning there are two kinds of reality, material and non-material. It is viewed as heaven and hell. Each of these western religions believes that humans are here to submit themselves to god. There are sharp distinctions made between humans and the rest of the natural world. The individual is the same throughout eternity, and the separateness of humans from creation and from one another  is real and permanent. Human nature is viewed as sinful and we become better by taking control of our sinful nature. The good life is obeying the laws of god. In Western religions, enlightenment is attained through significant people conveying god’s word to the ordinary people. This occurred through the prophets Adam, Abraham, Moses, Muhammad, Jesus. There is only one chance at life, and this is probably why Western religions seem to have more emphasis on justice. They believe there is only one true god and one true religion and all non-believers will spend eternity in â€Å"hell.† Eastern and Western religions also share many traits. Each of the groups has come about within other religions. Buddhism grew out of Hinduism, and Christianity and Islam grew out of Judaism. Each believes there is more to reality than what we experience with our senses. Eastern and Western religions alike have specific creeds, guidelines, doctrines or orderliness. Hinduism has the Bhagavad-Gita; Buddhism has the four noble truths; Christianity has the Bible; Judaism has the Hebrew Bible and the Torah; and Islam has the Koran. In the texts of these religions, many of the stories are moral stories meant to help us and not always factual. In these Eastern religions, they all meditate and reach a state of enlightenment. These Western religions all pray to god and have faith that god will help and have mercy on them. Each gains a better sense of self although by different means. They each teach to have compassion, love your fellow man, help those less fortunate, and live the best life you can. The most important similarities would be the thought and knowledge of existence outside of our realities. Morals are also where they balance with each other. Man’s destiny is viewed by both groups as lying in his own hands. Man can choose to enlighten himself or save himself, or choose not to. These are the most significant views shared. This is where they share the most common ground. The most important differences would be that eastern religions see truth in all religions and western religions see truth only in their religion. The way natural things are viewed set the groups apart significantly. Eastern religions see everything having value and western religions see only people  having value and nothing else. Western religions have had prophets to speak god’s word. Eastern religions say everyone can reach ultimate reality. These are the ideas that separate eastern religions and western religions so greatly. There are some common themes in all religions. All religious beliefs allow us to understand and categorize our world and our place in it. There is value in all religions that honor life and individuals potential. They are all concerned with ultimate reality, only seen from different angles. A common theme is charity. All religions emphasize charity and helping out those who need it. Happiness is a common theme, which is what is drawn together from religious experience. Wisdom is attained as a result of religion and its practice. The Eastern religions could teach the Western religions tolerance. Western religions only see themselves as â€Å"right† and dismiss all other views. This is not easily justified and just reaffirms eastern thought that humans are naturally ignorant. So that alone discredits the assumption on the western part that they are â€Å"right.† The Western religions could teach Eastern religions about dualism. One could say that although this reality is a certain way, who is to say that the next or continual one will be similar? They could see dualism within the reality. My approach to religion was greatly affected by my upbringing. I was raised as a Baptist. I blindly followed just as all children do. When I reached the â€Å"Age of Reason†, I took a serious look at the faith and came to my own conclusions. I figure that if the way I learned it is the way that it is, then there is no use in practicing it. If god is vengeful and could damn me to hell for eternity, then I don’t want anything to do with him. That certainly does not sound Supreme to me. I have a hard time believing the doctrine that we were created for the sole purpose of serving him and fighting down the human spirit. I would rather try to see life as being something to enjoy and make the most of it. I am considered â€Å"agnostic† and do not know where most men are sure. I feel that most organized religion has been around to control and limit people. Eastern religions appeal to me  because they are not necessarily based on doctrine. I view all beings as equal, t ry to live a good life, and don’t attempt to speak of things that I cannot conceive. Religion is definitely becoming more of a tolerable subject among those who are intolerable. The persecution of religious groups seems to be slowing down, very slowly. The future of religion is identical to the future of human existence. As long as human beings are around, they will use religion to place themselves in this world and understand themselves. As humans, we tend to be very self-important and make ourselves feel better about ourselves, and give ourselves meaning so we do not feel that we do not have a significant place in the world.
